MacEachern, a physician from Canada, preached quality in medical-care delivery.

As a mentor to hospital administrators, his book Hospital Organization and Management became a blueprint for many on how to properly run a hospital. MacEachern’s efforts led to the creation of both the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, now known as the Joint Commission.

Later in life, MacEachern went into teaching. He established the first hospital administration MBA program at Northwestern University in Chicago, which is now called Kellogg’s Health Management Program.
