Dr. Regina Benjamin
As the 18th U.S. surgeon general, Dr. Regina Benjamin is America's doctor, providing information and leading initiatives to help the public improve their health. Benjamin, 56, recently announced plans to launch a national campaign for walking, in addition to leading efforts to fight preventable diseases, curb tobacco use and continue education in suicide prevention. Benjamin, appointed in 2009, also leads the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, with 6,500 professionals serving worldwide. Previously, she served as the first African-American female president of a state medical society (Alabama).
