Doctors from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine faculty group, OU Physicians, will serve as medical directors for MinuteClinic locations in the state and collaborate on patient education and disease-management efforts.

Included in the clinical affiliation agreement are four retail clinics located in the Oklahoma City suburbs of Edmond, Moore, Mustang and Norman. The clinics are staffed by nurse practitioners and housed in stores operated by MinuteClinic's parent company, CVS Caremark Corp.

"At OU Physicians, we are committed to providing high-quality healthcare to Oklahomans, and in today's rapidly changing healthcare environment, it is critical to explore smart, innovative ways to improve our citizens' access to necessary treatments and preventive care," Brian Maddy, CEO of the 560-doctor OU Physicians group, said in a news release.

OU Physicians and MinuteClinic will work to integrate electronic health-record systems fully in an effort to streamline communications, the release stated, and MinuteClinic will be able to share medical histories and visit summaries with OU physicians throughout the state for patients who consent to having their records shared.

Back in June, MinuteClinic entered into a similar agreement with the 290-physician Florida (Maitland) Hospital Medical Group.
