Insurance giant Aetna has entered into an agreement with Baylor Health Care System's accountable care organization to help coordinate care for Medicare managed-care enrollees who are patients of Baylor ACO physicians.

The agreement will include Aetna Medicare Advantage members who see physicians within the Baylor Quality Alliance—Dallas-based Baylor's ACO—or the HealthTexas Provider Network, the insurer said in a news release. Aetna nurses will work with Baylor and Health Texas doctors to manage patient care, and the physicians "will be rewarded for quality and efficiency improvements," according to the release.

"We are excited to work with Baylor Quality Alliance to improve the coordination of care to our Medicare Advantage members, which we believe will also help lower avoidable healthcare costs," Dr. Randall Krakauer, Aetna's national Medicare medical director, said in the release.

This summer, Aetna announced ACO partnerships with Milwaukee's Aurora Health Care ACO and with Hunterdon HealthCare Partners of Flemington, N.J.
