Cedars-Sinai, Los Angeles, has named Dr. Richard Lewis co-director of the neuromuscular clinic.
He will also serve as director of the electromyography lab in the department of neurology.
Lewis was previously vice chief of neurology and director of clinical neurophysiology at Harper University Hospital, Detroit. He has also served on the faculty of Wayne State University School of Medicine, where he chaired the neurology department and directed the Hiller Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Center.
Lewis was the first to report on a rare autoimmune disease that was ultimately named for him, Lewis-Sumner syndrome. The disease attacks the “insulation” around nerves, leading to progressive weakness, tingling and pain.
