Mednax, a Sunrise, Fla.-based medical group that owns neonatal, pediatric and anesthesia practices across the country, has acquired two physician group practices for undisclosed terms in separate deals.

The deals cap a year in which Mednax has acquired 16 group practices, eight in each of its American Anesthesiology and Pediatrix Medical Group divisions, according to a news release from the company.

Mednax purchased Anesthesiologists Associated, a Chattanooga, Tenn., practice with 34 anesthesiologists, 100 anesthetists and 24 other clinical and administrative staff. "Faced with an uncertain healthcare environment, we were looking to partner with an established national medical group with a long track record of successful practice management," Dr. Chris Yetter, who was named medical director of the practice, said in a news release.

Mednax also acquired the Plano, Texas, group Pediatric Surgical and Associates, which consists of six pediatric surgeons and 15 clinical and administrative staff members.

Both practices were acquired with cash, according to the release.
