McLaren Health Care, headquartered in Flint, Mich., has named Dr. Justin Klamerus as interim president and medical director for McLaren Cancer Institute. Klamerus, 36, will take over after the March 31 retirement of Dr. Ray Demers, who has served as president and medical director for more than a decade.

Klamerus' previous roles include director of cancer services for McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey and medical director for the Oncology & Infusion Therapy Center at Ostego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord. Board certified in both medical oncology and internal medicine, Klamerus will continue to see patients during this interim position.

“His strategic leadership and clinical expertise will add to the strong foundation already in place … and will help us launch new initiatives to treat cancer patients,” Phil Incarnati, president and CEO of McLaren Health Care, said in a release.

The McLaren Cancer Institute, owned by McLaren Health Care Corporation, is a not-for-profit system of cancer centers with community and regional hospital affiliations throughout Michigan. It is set to open a $65 million proton therapy center for cancer treatment in Flint this spring.
