Dr. Howard Schapiro has been named interim president of the University of Vermont Medical Group at Fletcher Allen and interim senior associate dean of clinical affairs at the UVM College of Medicine, both in Burlington, effective Feb. 11.

Schapiro will assume the roles vacated by Dr. Paul Taheri while a national search is conducted for his replacement. Taheri recently left Vermont to become deputy dean and CEO of Yale Medical Group, New Haven, Conn.

Schapiro is an anesthesiologist at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington and associate professor at the UVM College of Medicine. During the interim period, anesthesiologist and associate professor Dr. David Adams will fill in for Schapiro as Fletcher Allen's anesthesiology healthcare service leader and the College of Medicine's chair of the anesthesiology department.

Their ages were not immediately available.
