Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is this program about?
A. This program is designed to recognize physicians who have made their mark on the business side of healthcare by introducing successful new products or services to the industry or by successfully leading or managing businesses serving the industry.
Some examples include:
  • Physicians who own their own hospitals or ambulatory surgery centers.
  • Physicians who own their own managed-care plans.
  • Physicians who run healthcare services companies.
  • Physicians who market or sell their own electronic medical records.
  • Physicians who market or sell their own medical products or devices.

Q: When is the call for entries?
Call for entries begins on June 7, 2010. If you'd like to be notified of the 2011 call for entries, click here to add your name to our notification database. You will receive an email when the call for nomination period is open.

Q: What is the eligibility criteria?

  • Nominee must be a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.)
  • Nominee must own in whole or in part a current business serving the healthcare industry OR lead or manage a current business serving the healthcare industry.
  • Nominee must be able to demonstrate the financial or market success of that business.

Q: When is the deadline?
A. The deadline to enter is July 16, 2010

Q: Is there a fee to enter/nominate?
A. No fee to enter.

Q: Where do I submit the nomination?

  • Nomination materials must include a cover letter of no more than three pages in length that explains the business and candidate’s role in that business.
  • Nomination materials must include the candidate’s resume, CV or biography.
  • Nomination materials must include reports or documents demonstrating the financial or market success of that business.
  • Nomination materials must include a color photo of the candidate.
  • Nominees automatically are eligible for competition unless they expressly withdraw their nomination from consideration.
  • Nomination materials may be sent to David Burda, editor, Modern Physician, 360 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, Ill., 60601. Material may be submitted electronically to dburda@modernhealthcare.com

Q: Will there be an event.
A. Yes, recipient will be honored at the annual meeting of the Physician Hospitals of America in San Francisco.
